About the Team
The data team is responsible for providing data persistence and caching services to its internal customers within engineering, along with the frameworks needed to interact with said services. The data team also supplies administration, scaling, and maintenance services to the operations team, along with an escalation path.
About the Position
The data caching engineer is responsible for the Hi5 caching layer from engineering access to operational maintenance.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain and Innovate Caching Framework. Accept ownership of Caching Framework from existing owner.
- Guilde Engineering toward most efficient use of caching Framework. Work with individual engineers on their individual application's use of the Caching Framework. Educate larger groups of engineers on best practices.
- Scale Production cache infrastructure. Guild operations in scaling cache infrastructure overall, and for each application.
Requirements
- BS in CS/math or equivalent, MS is a plus
- Background in design of large scale distributed systems
- Strong motivation for developing outstanding software used by millions of users worldwide.
- Sense of Humor
- 5+ years Java development with Multithreading experience.
- 1+ year c/c++ develoment
- Experience using Memcached from java
Preferred
- Java Performance tuning experience
- Understanding of Garbage Collection mechanisms
- Knowledge of database design concepts
- Familiarity with unit testing frameworks
