The Area : Database Systems

As a database applications engineer at hi5, you will be responsible for maintenance of hi5's highly distributed database framework.

The Role : Database Application Engineer

As a Database Application Engineer at hi5, you will be supporting the DB engineering team by designing sane schema, writing efficient SQL, and generally impressing us with your working knowledge of databases.

You will also be responsible for the following:

• Assist the applications engineering team with the most effective practices for DB usage (Schema design, SQL construction).
• Participate in applications engineering architecture process.
• Participate in DB engineering architecture process.
• Provide feedback to DB engineers and architects regarding quality and availability of DB interfaces for applications developers.
• Participate in implementation of database engineering team projects.
• Support operations group, both proactively and in crisis mode.

Requirements:

• Knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of DB clients and RDBMS along with SQL.
• Experience within or interacting with operations teams.
• Near rock star status software engineering skills (i.e., OO, Agile methods).
• Applied knowledge of software design, implementation, and industry-leading practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A sense of humor, especially during production crises.

Preferred:

• Java experience.
• Web applications experience.
